Technical Team Lead
B2B E-commerce Platform
Location - Bangalore, India (Development Centre)
Department - Technology / Engineering
Type - Full-Time
Team Size - 6–10 engineers (web, mobile, QA)
Experience - 8–12 years
Salary Range - 30 to 40 LPA
ROLE SUMMARY
We run a B2B e-commerce marketplace. Product direction and business stakeholders sit in the UAE office; engineering execution runs out of our India development centre.
We are hiring a Technical Team Lead to own day-to-day engineering delivery in India. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will spend a meaningful share of your week in the codebase — reviewing PRs, designing solutions, unblocking engineers and shipping the harder pieces yourself. The rest goes into sprint execution, technical decisions and keeping the India team aligned with UAE office priorities.
TECH STACK
You will work on and be responsible for:
• Frontend: Vue.js (Vue 3, Composition API), Vuex/Pinia, Vue Router, Tailwind CSS, PrimeVue, Nuxt where applicable
• Backend: Node.js with Express, REST APIs, JWT auth, background jobs and queues
• Database: MongoDB Atlas — schema design, aggregation pipelines, indexing, Atlas Search and vector search
• Mobile: Flutter — you should understand the architecture well enough to advise the team, review approach and reason about mobile design decisions
• Infrastructure: AWS — EKS/Kubernetes, ECR, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, CloudWatch
• Realtime: WebSockets / Socket.IO for order and delivery tracking flows
• Tooling: Git, GitHub Actions or equivalent CI/CD, Jira, Confluence, Postman, Bruno
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Hands-On Engineering
• Write, review and merge production code across the Vue.js frontend and Node.js backend.
• Own code quality for the India team — set review standards, enforce them in PRs, and refactor where technical debt is slowing delivery.
• Debug across the full stack — from a Vue rendering issue to a slow Mongo aggregation to a pod restarting in EKS.
• Guide and advise the team on day-to-day development decisions, and step in on the problems they cannot solve alone.
2. Architecture & Technical Decisions
• Design solutions for new modules and take them from spec to schema to API contract to implementation plan.
• Own MongoDB data modelling decisions — document structure, embedding vs referencing, index strategy, and how collections behave as data volume grows. B2B commerce data (catalogues, price tiers, order histories) gets large and query patterns matter.
• Review Node.js service design: API structure, error handling, validation, authentication, rate limiting, background processing.
• Make and document build-vs-buy calls on third-party services (payments, e-signature, mapping, notifications) with cost and integration effort laid out.
• Ensure the platform stays stable and performant on a live, revenue-generating system.
3. AI-Assisted Development — core requirement
We are actively moving our engineering process onto AI-assisted and spec-driven development. This role is central to that. You will need:
• Daily working use of AI coding tools — Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI or equivalent. Not occasional experimentation; a demonstrable change in how you build software.
• Spec-driven development practice — writing structured requirement and design documents that an AI agent can execute against, breaking work into verifiable tasks, and reviewing generated output against acceptance criteria.
• Judgment on AI output. You must be able to tell good generated code from plausible-looking bad code, and know when a task should not be handed to an agent at all.
• Prompt and context engineering — setting up repo-level context files (CLAUDE.md, rules files, custom commands), maintaining them, and making the team’s AI setup consistent rather than every developer improvising.
• Coaching the team — bringing junior and mid-level engineers up to speed on these tools, and holding the line on quality while doing it.
• Building AI into the product, not just the process — working with LLM APIs (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock), embeddings and semantic search, structured output extraction, and understanding where AI features genuinely help versus where they are decoration.
4. Delivery & Sprint Ownership
• Run sprint planning, estimation, standups and retros for the India team.
• Break requirements coming from the UAE office product team into technical tasks with clear acceptance criteria, so engineers are not guessing.
• Track velocity and flag slippage early. Raise blockers before they become delays, not after.
• Own release coordination — deployment planning, rollback strategy, and post-release monitoring on a live platform.
5. Team Leadership
• Line-manage 6–10 engineers across web, mobile and QA — 1:1s, feedback, performance conversations and growth planning.
• Mentor mid-level engineers into senior ones. Build depth so no single person is a bottleneck.
• Participate in hiring — technical screening, interviewing and onboarding.
• Keep the team’s engineering practices consistent: documentation, testing, branching, incident handling.
6. Working With the UAE Office
• Act as the main technical point of contact between the India team and the UAE office product and business stakeholders.
• Communicate clearly to a mixed technical and non-technical audience — status, risk, trade-offs, and what a decision will actually cost in time.
• Manage the time-zone gap with structured overlap hours, written updates and good async documentation.
7. B2B E-commerce Domain
You will own technical delivery on modules including:
• Product catalogue, multi-tier and account-based pricing, seller and merchant discounts
• Bulk and wholesale ordering, RFQ and quotation flows
• Buyer / seller / dealer / expeditor workflows and role-based access
• Order management, order splitting across vendors, fulfilment and logistics tracking
• Payments, credit terms, invoicing and VAT handling
• Vendor and merchant onboarding, including catalogue ingestion
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• 8–12 years in software engineering, with at least 2–3 years leading a team of 5 or more engineers.
• Strong, current, hands-on Vue.js — component architecture, state management, performance optimisation. You should be able to review any frontend PR on the team.
• Strong, current, hands-on Node.js and Express — production API development at scale.
• Deep MongoDB experience — not just CRUD. Aggregation pipelines, index design, query performance tuning, and schema decisions for growing datasets. Atlas experience preferred.
• Working understanding of Flutter — widget architecture, state management (Bloc / Riverpod / Provider), platform channels, and build and release pipelines for Play Store and App Store. Enough to advise the mobile team and challenge design decisions. You do not need to be the primary Flutter developer.
• AWS experience, particularly Kubernetes/EKS — deployments, resource limits, health probes, autoscaling, and reading logs and metrics when something breaks in production.
• Demonstrable, daily use of AI development tools in a professional setting, with real examples.
• Git and CI/CD — branching strategy, review workflow, automated pipelines.
PREFERRED
• Background in B2B e-commerce, wholesale/distribution or marketplace platforms.
• Experience working as the offshore technical counterpart to an overseas leadership team.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into a production product.
• Exposure to observability tooling (CloudWatch, Datadog, Sentry) and analytics instrumentation.
• Experience with third-party integrations — payment gateways, e-signature, logistics APIs, mapping and geolocation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
