Position: PostgreSQL L2 Support Engineer
Location: Bangalore (Onsite)
Experience: 3–6 Years
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift: 24x7 Rotational Support
Experience Required:3–6 Years in PostgreSQL Database Administration & Production Support.
Notice Period: Immediate to 30 Days Preferred.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a skilled PostgreSQL L2 Support Engineer to manage and support production PostgreSQL database environments. The candidate will be responsible for database monitoring, administration, incident management, troubleshooting, backup validation, performance monitoring, and operational support activities. The role requires close coordination with application, infrastructure, and support teams to ensure high availability and optimal database performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Monitoring & Administration:
· Monitor PostgreSQL database health, availability, and performance.
· Monitor replication status, storage utilization, and backup operations.
· Perform routine database health checks and preventive maintenance.
· Ensure database availability and operational stability.
2. Incident Management & Troubleshooting:
· Handle database incidents, alerts, and service requests within SLA timelines.
· Troubleshoot database connectivity issues, replication failures, and performance bottlenecks.
· Analyze and resolve slow queries, locking issues, and resource utilization concerns.
· Coordinate with application and infrastructure teams for issue resolution.
· Escalate complex issues to L3 teams when required.
3. Database Operations:
· Manage PostgreSQL backups and restoration validation activities.
· Perform database housekeeping activities including log management and maintenance.
· Administer database users, roles, permissions, and access controls.
· Support scheduled maintenance, patching, and upgrade activities.
· Monitor and manage database replication environments.
4. Documentation & Reporting:
· Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
· Prepare database health reports and incident reports.
· Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) preparation for critical incidents.
· Maintain knowledge base articles and support documentation.
Required Technical Skills
· PostgreSQL Administration:
o Strong experience in PostgreSQL Administration (Version 12/13/14/15/16 preferred).
o Experience with PostgreSQL replication (Streaming Replication, Logical Replication).
o Backup and recovery using pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, and recovery processes.
o Experience in database performance tuning and query optimization.
o Understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and internals.
· Linux Administration:
o Good knowledge of Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
o Shell scripting for automation and monitoring.
o System performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
· Monitoring Tools:
Experience with monitoring tools such as:
o Prometheus
o Grafana
o Nagios
o Zabbix
o PostgreSQL Exporter
Additional Skills:
· Understanding of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) concepts.
· Knowledge of ITIL processes and incident management.
· Experience working in production support environments.
· Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
· Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
· PostgreSQL Certification (Preferred).
· Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent.
· Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift hosted PostgreSQL environments.
· Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is an added advantage.
