Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and driven Software Engineer II to join our high-impact engineering team at Blackhawk Network India in Kozhikode, Kerala. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Angular, and AWS cloud services, and will be responsible for designing, building, testing, and deploying scalable solutions with a focus on high availability, precision, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and produce high-quality code for projects, taking ownership of individual modules from design through deployment.
  • Utilize AI-powered developer tools (code assistants, automated test generation, AI code review) to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality standards.
  • Design event-driven, cloud-native microservices on AWS with automated failover, auto-scaling, and AI-driven observability (anomaly detection, predictive alerting, intelligent log analysis).
  • Follow sound development practices, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and participate in biweekly support rotation. Design, develop, and unit test software applications, adapting and enhancing engineering processes and tools as needed.
  • Lead team code reviews, manage code effectively, and improve code management procedures.
  • Demonstrate expertise in diagnosing complex issues, contribute to change management processes, and establish good engineering practices.
  • Mentor team members on both traditional engineering patterns and emerging AI-assisted development workflows, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Write clean, reusable code for readability and testability, ensuring products are performant, scalable, and fault-tolerant.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and stakeholders to create and deliver exceptional product requirements, evolving the platform toward AI-ready service boundaries.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of software development experience, specializing in core Java, Spring Boot, and J2EE ecosystems.
  • Advanced Java skills and proficiency in Spring frameworks, with the ability to develop multithreaded applications.
  • Expertise in RESTful architecture, microservices design, and implementation of REST Web Services. Experience with event-driven patterns (Kafka, SQS/SNS) is preferred.
  • Experience in database design using PostgreSQL, along with a strong grasp of SQL. Familiarity with NoSQL stores (DynamoDB, Redis) is a plus.
  • Strong Object-Oriented design and development skills.
  • Proficiency in Angular, React, and TypeScript, with an understanding of modern component architectures.
  • Hands-on AWS experience—Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, CloudFormation or CDK, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models)—prompt engineering, function calling, or fine-tuning.
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) as part of the daily development workflow.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the finance or payment industry is preferred.
