Senior Software Engineer – VB6 / .NET

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in VB6, VB.NET/.NET Framework, MySQL, and Windows desktop application development to support and enhance a large-scale, mission-critical enterprise application used in the automotive industry. The role involves maintaining a legacy codebase, resolving production issues, implementing enhancements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure application stability and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide production support and resolve application defects.

· Investigate and address customer-reported issues and escalations.

· Develop and implement maintenance enhancements for the existing Windows desktop application.

· Troubleshoot and optimize MySQL databases, queries, and stored procedures.

· Maintain and enhance WCF Web Services and .NET shared libraries.

· Work with legacy VB6 code while ensuring backward compatibility and application stability.

· Participate in code reviews, GitHub pull requests, and follow established branching strategies.

· Support release management and deployment activities.

· Capture technical knowledge and maintain documentation to reduce dependency on institutional knowledge.

· Collaborate closely with the Engineering Manager, QA, and development team during knowledge transfer and project execution.

Required Skills

· Strong hands-on experience with VB6.

· Experience with VB.NET / .NET Framework.

· Experience developing and supporting Windows Desktop Applications.

· Hands-on experience with WCF Web Services.

· Strong knowledge of MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and stored procedures.

· Experience with Git/GitHub, branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.

· Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

· Experience working with large, legacy enterprise applications.

· Good understanding of software maintenance, production support, and release management.

Preferred Skills

· Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.

· Exposure to cloud-hosted and on-premises database environments.

· Experience working with third-party integrations and APIs.

· Strong documentation and knowledge transfer skills.
