Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer to take ownership of the development, maintenance, and operational excellence of backend microservices. The ideal candidate must have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, Apache Kafka, MySQL, Docker, and Kubernetes.

The candidate will be responsible for understanding and documenting existing business logic, developing scalable REST APIs, integrating with internal and external systems, managing Kubernetes deployments, and ensuring the reliability and performance of production services.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of 2–3 assigned PTCS microservices, including controllers, notification services, schedulers, and exporters.
• Understand, document, maintain, and improve existing business logic across the PTCS microservices portfolio.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance REST APIs.
• Implement Kafka producers and consumers for push notification and email notification pipelines.
• Integrate microservices with external systems, including BSS, ASM, ATG, JID/RID, Firebase/FCM, email systems, and HashiCorp Vault.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following coding standards and architectural guidelines.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests.
• Maintain and improve Helm charts and Kubernetes deployment configurations.
• Support L3/L4 production incident escalations and troubleshoot complex backend issues.
• Contribute to technical documentation, test strategies, test cases, and Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
• Participate in architecture reviews and technical decision-making.
• Mentor junior developers and support knowledge sharing within the team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience developing and maintaining microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, and consumer groups.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL, complex queries, transactions, indexing, and performance optimisation.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including pod management, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and resource limits.
• Strong understanding of REST API development, integration, OpenAPI, and Swagger documentation.
• Knowledge of JWT, OAuth2, and token-based authentication and authorisation.
• Experience integrating Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications.
• Proficiency in Git and feature branch workflows.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Argo CD.
• Hands-on experience developing and managing Helm charts.
• Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit 5, Mockito, and Testcontainers.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Spring Cloud, Spring Batch, or Spring Scheduler.
• Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault for secrets and certificate management.
• Familiarity with Strimzi Operator and Kafka deployments on Kubernetes.
• Experience with Micrometer, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Knowledge of distributed tracing tools such as Jaeger or Zipkin.
• Familiarity with ELK Stack, Loki, and application performance monitoring tools such as New Relic, Dynatrace, or Datadog.
• Knowledge of service mesh technologies such as Istio or Envoy.
• Understanding of the telecom domain, including BSS/OSS provisioning workflows and parent-child account management.
• CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer) certification is an added advantage.
