About the Role
We are looking for a skilled Backend Developer with strong expertise in Node.js and TypeScript to design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable backend systems and real-time communication applications.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with WebRTC-based video calling software, Socket.IO/WebSockets, database management, cloud deployment, payment gateway integration, and third-party messaging services, including bulk SMS, OTP SMS, and WhatsApp Business API.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Build RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.
- Develop real-time communication features using WebRTC, Socket.IO, and WebSockets.
- Work on video calling software, including signaling servers, call management, and media session coordination.
- Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data models using MongoDB.
- Implement Redis for caching, session management, real-time state, and background job processing.
- Containerize applications using Docker and manage deployment on cloud platforms.
- Implement logging, monitoring, error tracking, debugging, and application performance optimization.
- Write unit tests, integration tests, and API tests to ensure application reliability.
- Integrate payment gateways, including payment processing, webhooks, transaction verification, and refund workflows.
- Integrate bulk SMS and OTP SMS gateways for authentication, notifications, and transactional messaging.
- Integrate WhatsApp Business API or approved WhatsApp messaging providers for automated notifications and communication.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and product teams.
- Follow security best practices, including authentication, authorization, API protection, data validation, and secure handling of sensitive information.
- Maintain technical documentation and troubleshoot production issues.
Required Technical Skills
1. Backend Development
- Node.js

2. Real-Time Communication
- WebRTC fundamentals and implementation

- STUN/TURN server concepts and configuration
- Real-time event handling and connection management
- Video calling architecture and troubleshooting
3. Database and Caching
- MongoDB, schema design, indexing, and query optimization
- Redis for caching, sessions, queues, and real-time state management
- Database performance optimization and data consistency
4. DevOps and Cloud Deployment
- Docker and containerization
- CI/CD pipeline fundamentals
- Deployment on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or similar platforms
- Linux server administration and environment configuration
- Nginx, reverse proxies, SSL/TLS, and domain configuration
- Basic networking, scaling, and production troubleshooting
5. Logging, Monitoring, and Testing
- Structured logging and error handling
- Monitoring, metrics, and alerting
- Unit testing and integration testing
- API testing using Postman or similar tools
- Debugging, performance profiling, and production issue resolution
6. Third-Party Integrations
- Payment gateway integration, such as Razorpay, Cashfree, Stripe, or equivalent
- Bulk SMS and OTP SMS gateway integration
- WhatsApp Business Platform / Cloud API integration
- Webhooks, delivery reports, retries, and failure handling
- Email and push notification integrations, where required
7. Security and Performance
- Secure API development
- Rate limiting and abuse prevention
- Input validation and protection against common web vulnerabilities
- Secrets and environment variable management
- Scalable architecture and efficient resource utilization
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–5 years of professional backend development experience.
- Experience building production-grade video calling or real-time communication applications.
- Familiarity with TURN server deployment, such as coturn.
- Experience with message queues or background job processing.
- Knowledge of load balancing, horizontal scaling, and distributed systems.
- Experience troubleshooting production applications and cloud infrastructure.

The candidate should be able to independently develop backend services, integrate external APIs, manage database operations, deploy applications, investigate production issues, and contribute to the architecture of reliable, secure, and scalable communication software.
