Senior SAP ABAP Developer (Cross-Platform Specialist) - Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SAP ABAP Developer to join our team. This specialist role is responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of complex custom applications and interfaces across our integrated SAP landscape, which includes both SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA. The ideal candidate must possess deep expertise in modern ABAP development practices, including ABAP Objects, ABAP on HANA, Fiori/UI5 integration, and cross-platform connectivity, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and performant solutions.
Key Responsibilities
ABAP Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy custom ABAP programs, reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms (RICEF objects) in both SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments.
S/4HANA Expertise: Utilize modern ABAP techniques, including ABAP on HANA, CDS views (Core Data Services), AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures), and the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
Cross-Platform Integration: Develop and maintain interfaces using various communication methods, including OData services for Fiori/UI5 applications, SOAP/REST web services, and integration with middleware platforms (e.g., SAP PI/PO, CPI).
Fiori/UI5 Support: Collaborate closely with Functional and UX/UI teams to develop the necessary OData services and backend logic to support and optimize custom Fiori applications.
Performance Optimization: Analyze existing and newly developed code for performance bottlenecks, utilizing tools like the SQL Trace and ABAP Profiler, with a focus on optimizing database access through ABAP on HANA techniques.
Module Integration: Work extensively with core SAP modules (e.g., SD, MM, FI/CO, PP) to understand business requirements and ensure seamless integration of custom developments.
Quality Assurance & Standards: Enforce coding standards, participate in code reviews, and manage the technical transport management process (TMS) to ensure high quality and stability across the landscape.
Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed technical specifications, documentation, and unit test plans for all development activities.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience as an SAP ABAP Developer.
Technical Proficiency:
Expert-level proficiency in ABAP programming (ABAP Objects, classical ABAP).
Demonstrable experience in S/4HANA development, including CDS Views, AMDP, and the RAP framework.
Strong experience with SAP enhancement technologies (BAdIs, User Exits, Enhancement Spots).
Proven experience developing and consuming OData services using SAP Gateway.
Experience with Fiori/UI5 integration from the ABAP backend perspective.
Proficient understanding of data dictionary, locking mechanisms, and database concepts.
System Knowledge: Solid understanding of technical differences and development requirements between SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA.
Database Skills: Experience utilizing native SAP HANA features within ABAP development.
Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate functional requirements into robust technical solutions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
